The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse
Once upon a time, there were two mice who were cousins: one lived in the bustling town, while the other lived in the peaceful countryside. One day, the Country Mouse invited his cousin to visit him in his simple home.
“Come and enjoy my lovely countryside,” said the Country Mouse. “You will love it here!”
The Town Mouse accepted the invitation, curious about his cousin’s way of life. When he arrived at the Country Mouse’s home, he was greeted with a warm welcome.
“Welcome! I have prepared a feast for you,” said the Country Mouse proudly.
They sat down to enjoy a meal of fresh vegetables and grains. “This is lovely,” said the Town Mouse politely, but he couldn’t help but feel it was rather plain compared to what he was used to.
After finishing their meal, the Town Mouse suggested, “Why don’t you come to visit me in town? You will see how wonderful it is!”
The next day, they set off for the town. Upon arrival, the Country Mouse was amazed by all the sights and sounds. The Town Mouse took him to his lavish home filled with delicious food.
“Look at all this!” exclaimed the Town Mouse as he showed his cousin around. “We have cheese from France, fruits from faraway lands, and cakes galore!”
The Country Mouse’s eyes widened with excitement as they sat down to eat a grand feast. However, just as they began to enjoy their meal, they heard a loud noise.
“Quick! Hide!” shouted the Town Mouse as he dashed under a table.
Suddenly, a hungry cat appeared! It prowled around, looking for its next meal. The two mice trembled in fear as they watched from their hiding spot.
After what felt like an eternity, the cat finally left. Shaking from fright, the Country Mouse said, “This is too dangerous! I prefer my quiet home in the country.”
“Don’t be silly!” replied the Town Mouse. “This is where all the best food is!”
But despite all the delicious food around him, the Country Mouse could not shake off his fear. He decided it was time to return home.
“I think I shall return to my simple life,” said the Country Mouse. “I may not have fancy food or grand parties, but I feel safe.”
“Suit yourself,” replied the Town Mouse with a shrug.
And so they parted ways—one returning to his peaceful countryside home while the other remained in his bustling town filled with excitement but also danger.
Moral Of The Story
“Being happy with what you have is better than wanting more.” This story teaches us that while seeking out excitement or wealth may be tempting, true happiness often lies in appreciating what we already have. The contrasting experiences of both mice highlight how different choices can lead to different kinds of satisfaction.
