The Farmer and His Sons
Once upon a time, there was a hardworking farmer who lived in a small village with his three sons. Although they were strong and capable, the sons often argued with each other and refused to work together. The farmer noticed this and worried about their future.
One day, he decided to teach them an important lesson. He called his sons together and said, “I have something to show you.” He handed each of them a single stick. “Now, break your stick,” he instructed.
The sons quickly snapped their sticks in half without any trouble. “That was easy!” they laughed.
Next, the farmer gathered several sticks together and bound them tightly with string. “Now try to break these,” he said.
The sons pulled and tugged at the bundle with all their might, but no matter how hard they tried, they could not break the sticks. They looked at their father in confusion.
“Do you see?” asked the farmer. “When you are alone, you are weak like a single stick. But when you stand together as one, you are strong.” The sons began to understand their father’s lesson about unity. They promised to work together from that day forward.
As time passed, the brothers became closer than ever. They helped each other with their chores on the farm and supported one another during difficult times. Their teamwork brought prosperity to their family, and they enjoyed many happy days together.
One day, a neighbour came by to visit the farmer. He was surprised to see how well the farm was doing. “What is your secret?” he asked.
The farmer smiled and replied, “It is simple: my sons have learned that together they are stronger.”
